NATO Foiled Pirates Attempt to Hijack M.T. Jag Layak in Gulf of Aden

M.T. JAG LAYAK”, GRT 80637, BUILT 1996, IMO NO. 9107722, FLAG INDIA, ATTACKED BY SOMALI PIRATES IN GULF OF ADEN ON 16TH JANUARY 2010 WITH 31 INDIAN NATIONAL ONBOARD.
The Directorate General of Shipping has received information from the master of subject vessel that she was attacked by Somalian pirates in position 12 58N / 048 42E (Gulf of Aden) on 16th January 2010 at 0425UTC with a cargo of crude oil bound for India.
Due to evasive maneuvering and the intervention by the NATO warship pirates failed attempt to board the vessel. Vessel is reported safe. All the crewmembers are safe and unharmed.
