President of India Delivers Cavalry Memorial Lecture

Cavalry Memorial Lecture is held every year to honour gallantry of Cavalry men in the battlefield. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, delivered the Cavalry Memorial Lecture in honour of (Late) Maj DS Narag, MVC, 45 Cavalry, at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment on 18 Nov 15.
Late Maj Daljeet Singh Narag, gave the supreme sacrifice in the Battle of Garibpur during the 1971 Indo Pak War. The battle holds significance in the history of the war since it was the first offensive carried out by Indian troops across the International Boundary in East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) on 19 November. The success achieved in this battle laid the foundation for capture of Jessore and ultimate victory over Pakistan.
The President paid homage to (Late) Maj DS Narag, MVC and all soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Indo Pak War of 1971. He shared his perception on the formation of Bangladesh, aspects of bilateral relations between both countries and roadmap for the future.
The lecture was attended by about 650 serving and retired personnel of armed forces and their families. War veterans of Indo - Pak 1971 war, Lt Gen Ajai Singh, Air Marshal BS Sikand, Maj Gen PK Batra, Brig RK Singh, MVC, Brig Balram Mehta shared their experiences of the war and the battle of Garibpur with the audience.
