Indian Navy Engages ITTA For Quality Clothing & Footwear Under "Make In India"

Indian Navy, in association with Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA), supported by Ministry of Textile, is organizing a first two day Clothing and Footwear Seminar Cum Exhibition at Mullah Auditorium at Colaba Defence Station, Mumbai. The two day seminar was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command, this morning. The seminar was yet another effort by the Indian Navy towards achieving improvement in quality of clothing, smart stitching and footwear while propelling the cause of "Make in India".  
Speaking on the occasion Vice Admiral SPS Cheema said that India is known world over for its textile industry and yet the Navy struggles to kit its officers and sailors.  Pointing out on the procedural difficulties faced by the services and vendors he emphasized that the procurement procedures are being reviewed by the government and these difficulties will be addressed in these reviews.  He also requested the participants of the seminar to use this opportunity to understand each other’s requirements and arrive at a common
ground to improve the supply of clothing stores in the long run.

Vice Admiral Jaywant Korde, Controller of Logistics at Integrated Headquarter, Ministry of Defence (Navy), delivered the welcome address for the seminar. He said that by virtue of environment under which defence forces of our country operate, the defence forces are among the largest consumer of normal and technical textile. He stressed on better interaction between the Indian Navy and the industry and requirement to open up a two way dialogue which will serve the purpose of both Indian Navy as well as textile and footwear industry.

Gautam Singhania, CMD, Raymonds group delivered the keynote address on this occasion.  Representing the Textile Industry, he apprised the audience about the developments in textile industry which can be of great use to the armed forces.   The seminar was attended by some of the
most prominent names in the field of textile and footwear industry. Approximately 100 firms from textile and footwear industry participated in the event. The event also saw a large participation by personnel from all services and paramilitary forces. During the day the seminar covered Navy’s requirements and procurement procedures, and what technical Textile Industry has to offer to Indian Navy.  Some of the most well known personalities from the industry spoke on variety of topics relate to textile, technical textile and footwear technology.


The exhibition conducted during the event saw Indian Navy showcasing its entire clothing and footwear inventory and addressed the concerns and queries of industry. Participating firms showcased their products and offerings which could be of immense use to defence as well as paramilitary forces.
